Power Wheelchair (PWC) application process

There are three (3) types of PWCs available. Please follow the relevant pathway based on the person's clinical requirements or contact the Advisor on Call to discuss the request.

Type Community access and Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF)

Usage For people who need a power wheelchair without a high level of postural support

Used primarily for community access only
For people who need specific seating and postural supports
 
Used primarily for people who are using their power wheelchair for the majority of their mobility needs both in the home and community
For people who need a power wheelchair not available in the standard stock range

Standard inclusions

Community access and Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF)
Power wheelchair with integrated backrest

Additional information

  • A pressure cushion can be selected from the standard stock range
  • The supplier who delivers the PWC is funded to spend up to 2hrs with you and your patient/client setting up the equipment

Request process

  • Choose PWC and cushion from stock
  • Submit a request through EnableNSW Online or by using the power wheelchair and pressure cushion ERFs (use the EnableNSW equipment catalogue to reference the item codes on the forms)
  • If approved, the PWC and cushion will be delivered by our delivery supplier
  • The supplier is funded to spend up to 2hrs with you and your patient/client, to undertake a thorough assessment of safe use, suitability and to complete basic programming and adjustments.
  • Following demonstration of safe use in the home/community environment of use, the wheelchair will remain in place at the time of delivery.
  • If you assess the person to be unsafe or the PWC not clinically suitable, it will be returned to the EnableNSW Equipment Centre by the supplier.

Additional information

  • Back canes or mounting plate are in place to add a supportive backrest following the trial of the base with the supplier
  • A pressure cushion, seating and other accessories should also be determined during the trial
  • Other wheelchair features can be added or changed. For example, different armrests, manual elevating leg-rests, or an attendant control unit.

*If the person needs power elevating leg rests and the request meets the funding criteria for this feature, these can be included on the seating quote. Power features such as power seat elevation and power recline cannot be added to a stock power wheelchair.

Request process

  • Choose PWC base and submit a request through EnableNSW Online or using the power wheelchair ERF
  • The PWC will be collected by your selected supplier, who will make contact and arrange a trial – the list of suppliers available is included under each individual product listing
  • Complete seating trial with supplier and review suitability of the PWC
  • Submit an itemised quote and pressure cushion ERF via email to EnableNSW
  • Await final delivery

Additional information

  • If the seating and/or additional features are not clinically suitable for your patient/client when trialled, they can be changed in consultation with the EnableNSW Advisor on Call

*If the person needs power elevating leg rests and the request meets the funding criteria for this feature, these can be included on the seating quote. Power features such as power seat elevation and power recline cannot be added to a stock power wheelchair.

Request process

  • Choose clearance PWC and cushion from stock if appropriate
  • Submit request through EnableNSW Online or by using the power wheelchair and pressure cushion ERFs
  • The PWC will be collected by the preferred supplier, who will make contact and arrange trial
  • Complete trial with supplier and review suitability of the PWC and existing features
  • If no changes are required and the trial demonstrates the person is safe and the PWC is clinically suitable, it can remain in place.
  • If changes/adjustments required, submit an itemised quote for any additional features / seating requirements to EnableNSW
  • Await final delivery
