Consumer responsibilities

  • Read the instruction manual provided by the supplier.
  • Develop a back-up plan with your prescriber to best manage your daily living while your item is being repaired.
  • Properly clean and care for equipment received and inspect regularly.
  • Report faults early before they become a major issue.
  • Contact your prescriber to apply for a new item when the equipment is nearing the end of its lifespan or is no longer suitable.
  • Funding of repairs if damage has occurred as a result of misuse, neglect or unreasonable use.
  • If your equipment is lost or damaged through accident or crime, you will need to file a police report at the time of the incident.
  • Reimbursement to EnableNSW for the cost of repairs if a compensation payout is received.

Prescriber responsibilities

  • Read the instruction manual provided by the supplier.
  • Develop a back-up plan with your client to best manage their daily living while the item is being repaired.
  • Ensure your client / carer is aware of correct cleaning and care of the item including charging powered items.
  • Train your client / carer regarding the emergency features on their equipment. For example:
    • Hoists: demonstrating the location of emergency lower buttons.
    • Power mattresses: placing into transport mode during power outage and ensuring CPR valve is closed.
    • Power wheelchairs: placing into manual mode if power is not working.
